Supernatural: The end is nigh

Supernatural may have been picked up for another season, but the end is nearing for the Leviathan story arc…I hope. The Winchesters are looking for the three types of blood needed to create the weapon that will finally kill Dick Roman for good.

Cas was more than happy to give them a little blood before jetting off to parts unknown. They now needed the blood of Crowley and the blood of an alpha. Crowley was being a little stingy with the plasma until they brothers got all the other parts that they need.

Meanwhile, Dick kidnapped the scribe of the Word of God and after providing a very nice letter of recommendation to Princeton and threatening to kill his mom, got the translation of the tablet. He sends Edgar to get the vampire alpha and arrived just a bit later than the Winchesters.

It turns out Roman purchased Sucrocorp, which provides most of the world’s corn syrup. He adds his turducken mix to it and now the entire population acts liked stoned zombies, minus the eating of human flesh. Another side effect is that any creature be it vampire, werewolf, etc. that feeds on the stoner zombies is poisoned and dies.

After the alpha realizes the whole thing was the plan of the leviathan, he was more than happy to provide a little blood. The last scene was Dick conjuring up Crowley and asking him to sit down. It looks like the brothers are going to have a little difficulty in getting that last bit of blood. Adding to the problem is Bobby possessed a maid and took the flask with him as he went on a one-ghost manhunt for Dick.

Whew, can you tell the season is ending?

Deus Ex Maquina: A Writer’s Crutch

I was beginning to wonder how the writers of Supernatural were going to introduce a way to kill the Leviathans naturally. It was getting to the end of the season and Leviathan news was few and far between.

What they ended up doing was Deus Ex Maquina or God in the machine. It’s a way to magically solve a problem without actually doing anything. In this case, they literally had the word of God tell them exactly how to do it.

The brothers open up the tablet that they stole for Roman and it contained the word of God written by Metatron. When they open it up, Castiel wakes up and the brothers head to the asylum to meet up with Meg.

It turns out Cas is a little off and isn’t really much use, but is willing to give up some of his blood for the good of the cause before disappearing. I guess his fight is over. A prophet is awakened to find and translate the word and Castiel’s old garrison is sent to grab him and take him to the desert. Yada yada conflict yada and he ends up giving the translation to the Winchesters.

The angels take the boy back to his home where there is a Leviathan waiting for them and it kills the angels. So, now the Winchesters have to collect the ingredients and kill Roman. Wow, how anticlimactic. As a writer, the use of Deus Ex Maquina is occasionally permitted, but for such a large plot point it seems like the writers just lacked imagination.

Bobby gets his ghost on

The fabulous nerd hottie Felicia Day visited Supernatural on Friday as a lesbian superhacker that works for Leviathan boss Dick Roman’s company. Roman wanted Day to hack into Frank’s hard drive and retrieve the information.

In the process, she finds out about Roman, the Leviathan’s and the Winchesters. We also find out that Roman is expecting a major package being shipped from Iran and it’s a big deal. Needless to say, the boys get it and Roman is severely peeved.

Big deal. What made this show awesome was watching ghost Bobby take on Roman at the very end. Bobby risks becoming a vengeful spirit, also known as batcrap crazy, if he goes all vengeful. He almost loses with when he first sees Roman. Luckily, he reins himself in, but when Roman almost catches Day on her way out, he goes on the offensive.

It wasn’t the battle royal we’ve been waiting for, but Bobby got in some good licks. He throws Roman across the room and had he had more time would have probably ripped him a new one unless Roman has some kind of unknown ghost power.

The Internet is buzzing with ideas on what Bobby’s role in the finale is going to be. Some think he’s going to tear him apart, some think he’s going to suck out his energy and other believe he’s going to possess Roman. There’s only a couple of episodes left until the finale and rumor has it that it’s going to be a cliffhanger…again.

Now they care about natural order

Audiences have waited months for the spectral return of Bobby Singer on Supernatural and after a long lead in, we finally got our wish on Friday’s episode. Bobby’s been with the Winchester since he died, but always invisible and behind the scenes as he figured out his ghost powers.

Bobby has helped the brothers along the way in subtle, but much needed ways, so their reaction to finally seeing him was a little disappointing. No heartfelt reunion or even a few jokes, they were incredibly judgmental to the man that gave up heaven in favor of sticking around to help them out.

Dean goes off on a rant about the natural order of things and how Bobby being a ghost wasn’t part of it. Excuse me, natural order of things? This from the man that sold his soul for the life of his brother. The man who died, got sent to hell, started Armageddon and was pulled out by an angel.

Dean hasn’t followed the natural order of things throughout the entire series and now he gets all high and mighty. His butt would have been skewered if Bobby hadn’t helped him with that sword. Sam would be dead and Castiel still lost had Bobby not helped Dean.

I can’t help but feel bad for Bobby. He gave up everything to stay in their life. All the players are in the game now as the series starts to wrap up the season. My guess is Cas, Bobby and maybe even Crowley will have a big role to play in the final battle against the Leviathans.

Have The Mighty fallen?

As I wait anxiously for the remainder of the season to begin, I can’t help but look back and wonder about the rest of the angels. When we last had a major angel story arc, many had taken Cas’ cue and came to Earth.

The rest were fighting a war in heaven that Castiel apparently won…and then they just disappeared. It's no secret that the angels were never really that interested in the affairs of men and really wanted to bring about the apocalypse, but now that their story arc has passed, the writers seem to have just forgotten about them.

They are like the big elephant in the room. The leviathans are taking over and no one in the supernatural world really seems to care. The Winchesters seem to be the only people actually doing anything about it and that happens about once every five episodes. What do the angels think about this?

These guys are all smitey this and smitey that, with their ability to pop in and out and it takes A LOT to kill them. It’s not like the leviathans can just eat an angel. That’s going to have to create one heck of an acid reflux.

When the leviathan storyline started, the show’s producers said the angels were not going to be around much because their story was told, but can you just ignore them? Now that Cas is back and a vegetable, there aren’t any other loyal or disloyal angels out there wanting to check in on him. Plot hole, party of one.

The obligatory call about Cas now?

So, when old Frank seemingly kicked the bucket, I thought we were done with the whole call at the beginning of the episode maneuver. It’s a trite and amateurish move for seasoned writing professionals, so I was happy when we wouldn’t have to suffer through it anymore…then came the last episode.

Now, we have the obligatory call about Cas. Dean calls up the mental hospital to find out that Cas is still in a vegetative state and that doesn’t seem to be changing. Do we have to do this stupid call? I mean, we were without the man for a dozen episodes and we knew he was pretty much out of commission, so there is no need to keep bringing it up.

While we’re on the subject of a vegetable angel, is keeping him in a mental institution really the best place for him? I mean, doesn’t Crowley and everyone else know that Cas is there? They had a dozen demons outside that all got smote by angel fire.

Doesn’t anyone think Crowley or the Leviathan, who are apparently tuned into everything, might try and kidnap him? Crowley and Cas have a really crappy history and I am sure, he’d love to get a hold of him…even just to find out what makes him tick.

We’ve got a break for about a month before Bobby comes back as a ghost, and I hope as the season wraps up Cas, Bobby and the Winchesters go to battle against the Leviathans together. It’s always how it was meant to be.

It’s official, they’re getting the band back together

When I saw that this week’s episode was about ghost you could only see when you were drunk, I wasn’t too impressed. The folks at Supernatural have had a good run of episodes lately and I thought it was going to end with this episode.

I was right and I was wrong. The episode itself was subpar, but the revolution at the end was enough get me excited about next week. Bobby Singer has been dead for a while now, but we had some clues that the hunter had stayed around as a ghost.

It was small. A drank beer here, a helpful fall of a book there, but nothing concrete…until now. At the end of the episode, we got to see that familiar face and popular catch phrase “idjits.” It’s going to be three weeks before a new episode, but it promises to be a good one when the Winchesters find out about Bobby.

So it looks like the writers are getting the band back together. We had Castiel lingering in a insane asylum and Bobby as a invisible ghost. My guess is that everyone and the Metallicar will be coming back for the final battle against the Leviathans and it’s going to be a good one. We just need to have them all meet up on a rooftop to perform some of their favorite tunes.

We’ve had Bobby, Cas, Meg, Garth and all we are missing is Crowley. The season had been pretty slow, but it looks things are going to start heating up.

CASTIEL IS BACK!!!!!!

It’s been foretold for weeks and finally the wait was over. Mischa Collins returned for Supernatural Castiel the angel…sort of. The devil had turned Sam’s mind into much and kept him up for days, making him on the brink of madness.

He ends up inside a mental hospital as the doctor’s try to help him, but I he goes too much longer without sleep, his body is going to shut down. Dean starts calling around to see if there is any shaman or faith healer that might be able help his brother, but comes up with nothing.

That is until suddenly a card falls from the book with a number. (Bobby…are you there.) The number is another hunter that was healed by a man named Emanuel. Dean tracks him down and …queue the drum roll..it’s Castiel with no memory. Crowley hear there’s a human healing people and dispatched some demons to take him. Dean saves him and has an awkward conversation because he doesn’t want to let on this guy is actually angel.

As they duo make their way to same, they get ambushed by demons and who steps in to save them…Meg. At the hospital demons are waiting outside and there are too many for them to handle. They finally tell Cas who he is and as he destroys the demons his memory comes back. He tries to help same, but he is too far gone. At the last minute, Castiel takes the evil into him and suddenly he is the one with visions of the devil and Sam is back to normal.

They brothers left with Castiel locked up in the loony bin apparently catatonic.

Leviathans Aren’t Too Loyal After All

After several weeks hiatus, Supernatural returned with a new episode and got back on track with the Leviathan storyline. Sam and Dean visit a picturesque little town were real estate agency is buying everything in town.

The brothers are there to find items that a near-do-well son sold without knowing they were cursed. It turns out the Leviathans are behind the real estate buyout and the manager is a raging pain and the assistant isn’t too fond of her.

This is the first time we see the Leviathans at odds with each other. We get the feeling that they are becoming fond of living in the modern world preferring their high priced coffees and food. We get thrown for a loop when the assistant helps the brothers cut the head off the real estate manager and we find out the company was going to buy all the property to build a research station to cure cancer.

His last words were that the Leviathans were just there to help. In the final minutes, the brothers go back to find Frank’s trailer and find it ransacked and blood everywhere. It looks like Frank met a bad end for sneaking too deep into Leviathan business.

What makes this episode was the preview for next week. Our favorite angel is back as she showed us Castiel, or at least someone that looks like Castiel. Producers have said that he’s dead, but that he might be showing up in some form or another. We are also eagerly anticipating the return of Chuck sometime this season.

Leviathans and the Demons

It's no secret that the Leviathans hate the demons and see them little more than disgusting bugs that exist. Crowley was put down hardcore by the Leviathan leader and has been more than willing to stay out of the Winchester's way as they try to destroy them.

Crowley isn't stupid and he knows that if the Leviathans win that the soul smorgasbord that he enjoys is going to go away. The season is drawing to a close and the Winchesters are no closer to figuring out the Leviathans than when the season started. They can hurt them, but there is no real way to kill or detect them.

If they want to resolve this by the end of the season, then they are going to need one heck of a Deus Ex Maquina. My guess that's going to come either in the form of Castiel, who is set to appear in the next new episode, or Crowley. It's probably going to be a mix of both. If the Winchesters are going to defeat the big bad, they are going to need some serious help.

That means either finding a way to kill them or sticking them back in purgatory. Crowley has been way to quiet lately, so when he does come around, which will be soon, he's going to be carrying some hefty firepower. The boys have a personal reason for wanting the Leviathans dead, but for Crowley it's all business.

I haven't been to thrilled with the season so far, but something tells me the final battle is going to be a doozy.
